SERMON PREPARATION: In preparation for this Sabbath’s message on the “Seal of God” — please watch this in-depth study by Ty Gibson. William Barclay writes, “A merchant would seal a package of goods to certify that it belonged to him; and the owner of a vineyard would seal jars of wine to show that they came from his vineyard and with his guarantee. So, here, the seal was a sign that these people belonged to God and were under his power and authority. In the early Church, this picture of sealing was especially connected with two things:

  1. It was connected with baptism, which was regularly described as sealing. It is as if, when people were baptized, a mark was put on them to show that they had become the property and the possession of God.

  2. Paul regularly talks about Christians being sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit. The possession of the Holy Spirit is the sign that people belong to God. Real Christians are marked out by the seal of the Spirit, which enables them to have the wisdom and the strength to cope with life in a way beyond the reach or achievement of others.” (The New Daily Study Bible)

SABBATH SCHOOL REFLECTION QUESTIONS:

  1. How have you understood the "Seal of God” metaphor in Revelation?

  2. What does the idea of belonging to God mean to you?

  3. If the 144,000 are not spared from death and suffering, why are they rejoicing?

WEDNESDAY PRAYER TIME: Join us on Zoom at 7 p.m. for study and discussion of 2 John, followed by a time of prayer.

SIMPLE GESTURE PICKUP TODAY: Please bring your donations to the church for pickup. The June food needs list is a long one, and your donations are much needed and appreciated at this time, as the food bank shelves are quickly becoming empty—many items are already gone. The following is a list of just some of the items needed: jam/jelly, peanut butter, crackers, snacks, cereal (both boxes and single serve packages), meals-in-a-can, canned fruit, pancake mix, cooking oil, cake/brownie/baking mixes, milk (all types), soups (all types), refried beans, kidney beans, pinto beans and more. In addition to your food bag, please consider donating the special request items: bar soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste and toothbrushes, toilet paper. Please do not donate green beans, mac & cheese or dry pasta. The food bank does not need them currently.

JUNIORS AND YOUTH: Today we will be volunteering with A Simple Gesture. Parents, you can drop your children off after 9:30 a.m. before church and pick them up after Sabbath School behind the Salvation Army at 3001 R Ave. Pizza will be served to them around noon.
